The Mortal Kombat Side of Things
Sorry for the slow week in terms of my postings, I have been dealing with some family issues...
With only a few months remaining until the release of Mortal Kombat v. DC Universe for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, Ed Boon and company are remaining tight lipped on the identities of the remaining characters on the playable roster. Rarely has a fighting game had its roster shrouded in as much secrecy this close to the games release. Theoretically, the game has to go into print within the next 60 days, so it has to be close to being completed... definitely close enough that they know the entire roster of characters and the art process has been completed for all of them. Midway is playing their cards right in doing this though because it is helping to build the anticipation for the game to immense proportions. With only two slots left on the playable roster for each side of the game (MK and DC), let's theorize as to who may fill in those final spots on the Mortal Kombat side of things...

How do save $20.75 million, pay chicken feed for patent infringement, and make your competitor look foolish? Clauses! It looks like Immersion, the patent holders of the rumble feature on game controllers, has paid back Microsoft 80% of the $26 million that they originally took for patent infringement on the 360 rumble feature. (oddly the only thing that has not broken on the 360!) It turns out that a clause in the original lawsuit said that Immersion would refund MS $20.75 million if there was a settlement in their case against Sony. (some smart lawyer just got a big fat raise, and another got thrown out a window.) Since Immersion settled with Sony for $121 million, they had to pay MS. This happened after a court battle over what the word "settlement" means. (apparently Immersion said that they had an agreement with Sony and not a "settlement") This "agreement" also puts Immersion into Microsoft's Certified Partner Program for hardwareand paves the way for Immersion's work with haptic technologies. (basically, it's touch feedback) Read the whole article at Gamasutra.

Well the weak or those smarter then me. So here it is 2:12 in the a.m. on Wednesday morning, my wife and I are both wide awake in anticipation of our impending trip to Seattle. This wouldn't be so bad except our flight doesn't leave for another 5 hours and to make it on time we need to leave in about an hour. So I'm sure I'll be in a rather foul mood sometime later today. I plan on killing time on the flights with catching up on some PSP games. A little Killzone: Liberation, Metal Gear Portable Ops, and probably a little Hot Shots Golf (because reflexes are always so much quicker when suffering from insomnia). Not sure if our hotel has internet or not if so I'll be posting throughout the week if not expect a big wrap-up of the whole week. In closing I'd like to add... shwag!

It is no secret that I have not been a huge Sony fan over the past couple of years; I just haven't seen anything from the current generation that excited me on their console or from their camp. That was before Sony unveiled a little gem by the name of Little Big Planet. There are a lot of people who are very skeptical about the potential of this game but not me. When I look at this game, I think that the creativity of the gaming community along with the efforts of Media Molecule are going to give players endless possibilities...

I have spent the majority of my limited gaming time over the last week playing the much ballihooed Too Human. By now many of you have already made up your mind on if you think Too Human lived up to its hype. Ten year development time, Denis Dyack and his shenanigans, and the very controversial lawsuit with Epic Games over the Unreal Engine 3. I'm hear to share my thoughts on the game after one playthrough. So here we go...

Xbox Live's Summer of Arcade continues this week with another stellar release on the Xbox Live Arcade: Galaga Legions. This years summer promotion has been great and each of the games that have been released over the past month have received great reception amongst gamers and the media alike; Galaga Legions is no different. I think that this is a stellar space shooter that is a whole lot of fun, but I don't think that it deserves the "Galaga" name in the title...

Fable 2 Pub Games
I happened to get my hands on a download code for Fable 2 Pub Games for the XBLA this past weekend. This wasn't a game that I would have ever bought myself but who would say no to a free game. I took the time to fire the title up this weekend and to see what it is all about; I have to admit, this is a pretty novel concept and could be something that I see other games doing in the future. Unfortunately, that is only for those people who have gotten it for free...
