Mac: "Hi, I'm a mac." Jerry: "And I'm an aging comedian."
Mac: "My commercials are popular with the world and sells a ton of Macintosh computers." Jerry: "I used to be in a show about nothing, and a Visa commercial." Mac: "My computers work so well that people are proud of owning me." Jerry: "Microsoft is paying me $10 million dollars to make them look better." Mac: "I died in Jeepers Creepers and am becoming a rising star in all sorts of movies." Jerry: "I still do stand up and...and...other things." Mac: "What sort of other things?" Jerry: "You know. Cameos and stuff." Mac: "What other stuff?" Jerry: "The...umm...I was the voice of an animated bee and...umm...I'm famous." Mac: "Right. Well, I'm a Mac." Jerry: "And I'm the new face of Microsoft." Mac: "Good Luck, old guy." That's right folks! Jerry Seinfeld is the new face of Microsoft. According to a report in Adweek, a Wall St. Journal story found out that Microsoft just hired Mr. Seinfeld to star in commercials opposite of Bill Gates to offset the"stodginess" implied by Mac commercials. The real question is: Why in the world would you hire an aging comedian who was uber-famous in the 90's to sell your products to the youth of the nation? Is it because you are a stodgy company thinking inside the box? The reason the Mac commercials are so popular is that it used and up and coming actor (that did more than just a sitcom and an animated movie about a Bee.) and give him some great face time while making a great ad. I don't see how Microsoft could make their image more appealing to a younger audience when they use one guy over 50, let alone 2 guys in their mid-fifties (both also born in the mid-fifties, for that matter). I say knock $300 million off of the cost of your products and announce that your software prices are going down, or hire the Mac guy to become the new face of Microsoft.
