Games, like movies, music, and even people on occasion, need awards.  And although the gaming awards are few and far between, I do applaud those outlets that give out those awards, particularly if they are voted on by the gaming public at large.  Enter G4 with their Gphoria Awards.  Handed out just this past week on the show, they include some of the best categories and games of each console you most likely have your hands already on.  Here's a taste, and hit the jump to see the full list of winners and nominees (it is an honor just to be nominated!).  Which categories do you agree with?  What games are missing from the podium?  Who will be hoping the orchestra doesn't play them off stage before they've thanked their million publishers?

All in all I thought they did a decent job of separating out the great properties from the posers.  There are some surprises though - how can Halo 3 lose in four categories and still end up with Game of the Year honors?  Burnout Paradise deserves more honors just for the unending support from Criterion.  But Turok is definitely Uwe Boll movie material.
